Severity Of Menopause Symptoms May Be Affected By Infertility

Research has found a relation between menopausal symptoms and infertility. The study focused on women who were struggling with infertility to experience specific menopausal symptoms later.

The research conducted with around 700-odd participants, was published in The Menopause Society. The researchers were interested in studying the impact of infertility on a woman’s life. Specifically at the later stages of their life when they are about to enter menopause, the associated symptoms were predicted to be severe for them.

As per the research, they found that the severity of the symptoms such as depressive mood, sleep issues and irritability were reported more than other signs. The women experiencing infertility were more likely to experience these symptoms severely than those who weren’t battling infertility.

The women who go through menopause do not experience the symptoms in a similar manner. This research was a positive step towards this conclusion, providing an idea of the possible factors that can affect the experience.

The researchers pointed out that among other factors that have an effect on menopause were behavioral, social, biological and psychological factors. In addition, demographical data was also responsible for the disparity in severity of symptoms.

Additional research is required to understand the relationship of these different factors to the extent of symptoms experienced by people. The genetic makeup of an individual experiencing menopause, as well as the interactions of hormones were also stated to play a role.

The four main reasons that were attributed to the difference in experience of menopause by women experiencing infertility were concluded in the study. These reasons were found to be: hormonal factor, time and age, treatment history and emotional impact.

Other factors said to have an impact on the severity of menopause symptoms were found to be stressful events, mood changes, lack of sleep and irritability. The treatment intended to ease the experience was found to be that for depression.

Lastly, the individual needs of a woman was said to be a key factor in the difference of their experience.
